Plan a Successful Picnic

A picnic in the park or beside a creek is one of the nicest ways to spend a warm sunny day.  What a wonderful way to enhance a relationship with family and friends.   Picnicking is one of America’s favorite pastimes.  The secret to a successful picnic is organization, making sure that you have everything that you need.

 

Picnic backpacks have become increasingly popular to carry all that is required when compared to a picnic basket.  They are easier to carry and not so tiresome and heavy.  The convenience of that picnic backpack is obvious as you see all the pockets and containers designed in the backpack.  Stored in the backpack are utensils and dishes for two to four people.  Included in the dishes besides the obvious plates and cutlery are wine glasses, bottle stopper, cutting board, corkscrew, food containers and  salt and pepper shakers.

 

The picnic backpack makes it easy to carry the food and drink without spillage.  Some pockets are insulated to keep the food hot or cold during the trip.  Most bags are large enough to carry all the food, drink and dishes you need for your picnic.  If you enjoy wine or beer with your picnic remember to keep a corkscrew with bottle opener in your backpack. 

 

The next thing that is nice to have for a fantastic picnic is a picnic blanket.  This will protect your clothing from getting dirty or grass stains.  When selecting your picnic blanket make sure you get one large enough so you are not cramped.  You will want one around 50 by 60 inches as this will give you enough room to lay down.  Picnic blankets should also be waterproof or water resistant to protect you from damp ground.  Important also is to be able to wash your blanket.  

 

Remember to bring a little entertainment to keep everyone interested.  Some suggestions are ball and gloves, horseshoes, Frisbee, cards or a board game.  Music is often nice on a picnic as long as it is kept low so it does not disturb neighboring picnickers.

 

Lastly you will need your food, drink and hand sanitizer.  Bring lots of water so no one dehydrates from the heat.  Keep your food simple and avoid anything with mayonnaise.  The idea of a picnic is to relax not have to worry about the food.  Dessert is a must at picnics and S’ Mores can be very fun and decadent with the marshmallow, chocolate and graham wafer crackers.  A thermos of coffee with Baileys will complete dessert.

Belt buckles are an integral part of the belt.  Belt buckles are fast becoming a popular accessory for your wardrobe.  Without a belt many of us would have a hard time keeping our pants up.  There are different types of belt buckles. Belt buckles can be clip, snap or tang. 

 

Clip belt buckles are made of thin plates of metal fitted over a belt end, secured by spring or magnetic clips, with the belt inserted through a back rail.  This is a common style belt buckle for Western buckles.

 

Snap buckles have two components; one is spring driven clasps on both sides, while the other is hollow with open sides, with the clasp part on one end of the belt and the hollow one on the other.  To lock the clasps are squeezed together and snapped into place inside the hollow piece.

 

Tang buckles have a metal ring and hinged flaps known as tangs.  As the belt fits through the metal ring, the tang secures it in place by being pushed through a buckle hole along the belt.  Tang buckles offer the most secure fit.

 

Belt buckles come in many designs and sizes.  The metal western belt buckle is very popular.  There are fancy buckles studded with stones or vintage jewelry. There are fashion plastic and woven belts.

A Watch for Every Occasion

Watches have become part of our jewelry rather than just a time piece.   Years ago a person would have only one watch and it would not be replaced until it quit.  Today women in particular have several watches and change them to co-ordinate with their outfit.

 

Watches can be found in many shapes, styles and colors.  There are sports watches, dress watches, pocket watches, pendant watches and brooch watches.  Wrist watches can be a bangle watch resembling more a bracelet.  In addition every designer has their unique line of watches. For the avid traveler it is handy to have a watch with two faces for two time zones. 

 

 

Sports watches are a must for active everyday life.  They will withstand the abuse a rock climber, diver or runner will put on a watch.  Sports watches are usually made of sturdy materials like steel, titanium, rubber and leather.  They offer features such as a stopwatch or alarm.  Sports watches are suitable for casual, everyday wear.

 

A dress watch should be part of every person’s wardrobe.  These watches are usually thinner with a classic design in white or yellow gold.  They often have a very elegant bracelet and may or may not be jeweled.   Dress watches are for evening, formal wear.

 

For the woman that does not like something tight to her wrist a pendant watch may solve that.  Pendant watches are convenient to wear when travelling or when it is hot and your wrist can get sweaty.  Pendant watches also can work for women who have too much electricity in their body as their body chemistry stops wrist watches.

Family Game Night – From Chess to Darts

Games are an excellent way to entertain your family and friends.  Why not after the evening meal pull out a game and spend quality time with your family having an old fashioned game night?  During the time spent you can casually find out problems or successes that your family is experiencing.  Games encourage communication.   

 

There are various kinds of games to be picked.  There are board games like Chess, Checkers, Monopoly or Clue.  There are games that are meant to be fun, challenging or serious.  There are card games like Cribbage, Whist, Rummy and Hearts.  Table games like pool or poker are fun for a tournament set up.  Darts are also a great pastime.

 

A room needs to be set up properly for darts so nobody gets hurt.  A traditional dart board should never be set up close to a doorway as someone passing through could get hurt.  Also a protective covering needs to be put over the wall to protect it against damage from over shots.  If you have small children around you may want to consider a magnetic dart board.  This eliminates the worry of a dart sticking into someone. 

 

Chess is one of the oldest board games around, and is definitely very popular and competitive.  Hours can be spent trying to strategically outwit your opponent.  If you love a challenge and feel the need to empower your decision-making skills and strategic abilities then chess is the game for you.  This is a wonderful game for two competitive people to play.

 

Poker has become increasingly popular with many households purchasing a poker table, setting it up in the garage or games room.  Poker tournaments are a great evening pastime.

 

Cribbage is one of my personal favorite games that I learned in Grade 5 math class and played with my Grandparents often.  It is a fantastic game to play with your family where they can hone in on their math skills without realizing it.  What an affordable game.  All you need is a cribbage board and a deck of cards.  It is a game for 2 – 6 players.

 

Hosting a family game night is an affordable way to entertain your family or friends.  You can spend $20.00 a person going to the movies for one evening of entertainment.  By comparison if you purchase a game you can have hours and hours of entertainment by playing it over and over

Fish Finders Put You on Top of the Fish
